OUR MISSION

Conceived to preserve the cultural heritage of the nation and recount in full measure the nation’s history from its colonization by the British in the 17th century through its emergence as the world’s newest Republic, R.O.A.D. represents a pioneering commitment to transforming public collective memory in the 21st century, destined to foster job creation, economic opportunity, and the creation of a heritage economy with lasting global repercussions.

We seek to honor the past while shaping the future. By supporting the Barbados Heritage District, we aim to:

Commemorate the lives and legacies of the enslaved through a Memorial to the Enslaved

Advance historical and genealogical research with a state-of-the-art Digitisation Pavilion

Preserve and interpret cultural heritage through a National Archives & Museum

Inspire creativity and artistic expression via a National Performing Arts Centre

Foster reflection and community healing in the Spirituality Centre

Stimulate a new "heritage economy" by generating hundreds of jobs for Barbadians, attracting cultural tourism, and creating sustainable business opportunities
